Each November, we pause to honor the people who make independence possible: home caregivers. As part of National Home Care Month, we celebrate the quiet strength and unwavering commitment of caregivers who show up every day for seniors, Veterans, and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across North Carolina.
Amivie is proud to serve more than 8,000 individuals across six states through Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS). But while this month brings well-deserved appreciation, it also reminds us that respect must be backed by resources. Because appreciation without advocacy isn’t enough.
The demand for in-home care in North Carolina continues to grow, because more individuals are choosing to age in place or receive services at home instead of in institutional settings. But even as need rises, the home care system faces mounting strain:
These aren’t just operational challenges. They are disruptions that deeply affect the individuals and families who depend on continuity and trust in their care relationships.
During a recent interview with CBS17’s My Carolina, Richard Edwards, Amivie’s Vice President of Government Relations, spotlighted the urgency of this moment — and the essential role providers play in advocacy.
“Homecare appreciation month is about recognizing caregivers across the country and the state who are serving people in their own homes and communities, which is where people want to be supported. Through our services and services of agencies like us, folks can receive the services they need and stay close to the people they love and the communities they care about.” — Richard Edwards, VP of Government Relations
Amivie is committed to building sustainable, person-centered systems that support caregivers and those they serve. Our advocacy focuses on:
A proclamation of appreciation is a start. But caregivers deserve more than a pat on the back — they deserve fair wages, stable employment, and the full support of the communities they serve.
At Amivie, we believe in care without compromise. That’s why we continue to fight for policies that ensure long-term investment in the home care workforce and equitable access for families statewide.
This month, we encourage you to:
Amivie is proud to be a voice for caregivers and the people they serve — in homes, in communities, and in the halls of policy.
